Current Efforts: Rowers on the Guadalquivir

On Seville’s Guadalquivir, rowers move through dawn light in all seasons, tracing quiet lines of discipline across the water.

The series began with a sunny kayaking afternoon and took shape across three dedicated trips in January, April and May 2022. It documents the steady effort that builds athletes — through more than 10,000 images of youth trainees, everyday rowers and emerging competitors training at dawn and dusk along the city’s urban riverfront.

This approach later led the artist to Porto in 2024, where the Douro’s divers became the focus of Nas Mãos de Deus — continuing an exploration of water, athletic effort and urban life.

In July 2025, after a focused editing process, a set of twelve images was selected to distill the project’s essence: repetition, discipline, and the calm force of waterborne training.

The Current Efforts archive is available for individuals and organizations interested in stories of athletic development, river-based urban environments, and the quiet work that shapes potential into reality — for licensing, publication and exhibition.
